Biodiversity

The Green River is known as one of the most biodiverse river systems in North American.  It is host to more species of fishes than any other river in Kentucky and contains about 70% of the state’s 103 known species of freshwater mussels.  These statistics combined with a unique cave fauna help make this the most biologically rich branch of the Ohio River drainage according to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.  Visit the Biodiversity section and Biodiversity Guides for more about Green River’s aquatic wild life!
